Dr Richard A G Harker

MBCh B (1980 Liverpool) MRCGP DRCOG DA Dip Therapeutics Dip Occ Med Special interests: Palliative Care Therapeutics, Occupational Medicine, Performance Assessment and Management 


Dr Harker qualified from Liverpool University in 1980, having previously studied law at Durham before 'seeing the light'

He has been a partner at Whinfield Medical Practice since 1985.  He works three days a week in general practice, the remainder of the week being spent between being clinical quality lead for the CCG and working for the GMC as a performance assessor/medio-legal expert. 

He has an interest in musculo-skeletal conditions and occupational health.  Outside of general practice he tries, not always successfully, to repair classic cars, and keep track of his daughter who travels the world seeing whales, dolphins and turtles!


Dr Helen Mcleish

MBBS (1995 London) MRCGP Dip Therapeutics Special interests: Palliative Care, Women's Health  


Dr McLeish graduated from University College and Middlesex School of Medicine in London in 1995.  She did her general practice training on the Cleveland scheme and her GP rotations at Whinfield Medical Practice.  She liked it so much that she came back in 2003 as a partner.  She has a special interest in End of Life medicine and Palliative Care, and is the GP Lead for this in Darlington.  She is also the prescribing lead for the practice and as such attends regular prescribing meetings with GPs from the other Darlington practices. She is on the Darlington Primary Care Network Board. She organises the 5th year medical student teaching within the practice. the 5th year students are in the practice  for a 3 week block in the autumn term. She has a busy life as a full time GP and mum to two daughters.


Dr  Louise Russell

MBCHB (2002 Birmingham) MRCGP, DCH, DRCOG, DFFP, Dip Palliative Care


Dr Russell graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2002 and after completing housejobs in Birmingham, moved to the Newcastle VTS to complete her GP training.  She worked in Sunderland for 8 years, before moving to a partnership in Gateshead.  She has recently moved to Darlington for family reasons hence taking up the position at Whinfield.  She has a particular interest in Childrens Health and Safeguarding, as well as Womens Health.  She currently organises the 3rd year medical student teaching for the practice . The 3rd years are in the practice most Wednesday mornings in the autumn term and all day Tuesdays the rest of the year. She is also training to train new GP's. Outside of work she enjoys being a mother of three  children who keep her very busy and she can often be seen at local parks or soft plays weather dependent. She enjoys running and swimming and she is a keen football and snooker fan.
